Telemetry Commission. Environment Agency

Telemetry systems are used by the environment agency as an early warning system. As the water pressure increases its alerts the authorities to rising water levels. Silent guards against natural forces. I also drawn to the flood defence logos, the red ad blue images of homes in different states of flood that indicate the degree of danger that people in there homes are in. I liked the parallel’s in my own work, looking at the domestic environment in relation to the rural landscape, and ideas of our changing relationship to the natural world. Wanting to protect it and yet fearing what we cannot control. Because the location of this devise is placed in such a familiar section of the Tyne river I wanted to create an image that explores the vulnerability that the flood defence system indicates, but that also references the location in which it stands.
